Guide to yellow teeth & tooth whitening

Tooth whitening is one of three solutions

There are three main solutions for treating yellow, stained, and discoloured teeth, but which treatment you recommend depends on the extent of your staining and its cause, as teeth whitening is not always the effective solution, as your treatment will depend on the reason for your discolouration.

Alternatives to teeth whitening

  • AirFLOW is a modern hygiene procedure that blasts, cleans and polishes teeth dramatically enough to remove surface stains often caused by everyday items such as coffee. AirFLOW costs just £20 and can be integrated with your hygiene appointment.
  • If you’re unhappy with more than just the colour of your teeth, then veneers might be the better option, as they can conceal and cover many other ongoing smile problems in one. Veneers cost from £975 (highly competitive rate for London).

Common causes of yellow teeth

Tooth discolouration can happen for many different reasons.

  • The consumption of food and drinks with intense pigments such as coffee, tea, red wine and soft drinks, smoking, specific medication, ageing, accidents or trauma, oral disease or bad dental hygiene and tooth decay.
  • Some of these issues may also require other types of dental treatment to resolve the cause of the discolouration.

At home vs in chair whitening

Whiten Teeth At Home

  • Session 1: We will make records of your teeth for making your personal whitening trays.
  • Session 2: Your whitening gel and personal trays will be supplied with full instructions on utilising the product safely and correctly.

In-Chair, Practice Whitening

  • More powerful
  • One session only: The whitening gel is applied to your teeth, and a specialised light is used to speed up the process.

Advantages of tooth whitening

  • Teeth whitening can restore or significantly enhance the brightness of your smile, often boosting confidence with it.
  • Takes between 30 and 60 minutes to work.
  • Remove stains without causing any damage to your teeth.
  • Achieve the desired B1 shade almost instantly (guaranteed for 98% of cases).
  • High-strength but safe formulas which can be used from the comfort of your home.
